Description Of Hemorrhoid Symptoms

Hemorrhoids is a condition where veins inside of your anal canal become swollen.  This can be very painful as it causes pressure when moving your stool and also irritation if you develop external hemorrhoids.  In order to diagnose the condition, here’s a description of hemorrhoid symptoms that you may experience.

The Two Types of Hemorrhoids

There are two types of hemorrhoids: internal and external.  Internal hemorrhoids is basically a condition whereby the veins inside of your anal canal become swollen and obstruct your stool.  You may experience

-Itching when going to the bathroom or simply sitting.  The itching will feel like it’s coming from the inside.

-Blood during bowel movement.  Your stool may aggravate the condition and cause small tears which can lead to blood being found in your bowel or toilet paper.  Many people get scared when this happen because they think that they have a serious medical problem.  In reality, this is common with hemorrhoids.

-Excess mucus in your toilet paper or stool.  Mucus is produced for lubrication and increase in production is a sign that there is something wrong.

-Pain when moving your bowels.  The obstruction will cause pressure and press against the swollen area.

-Constipation.  If there is too much inflammation, it can get to the point where it is hard for you to pass the stool.

-Hardened stool.  Many people that develop the condition also have a harder stool because of their diet or because of the obstruction.  This can make it harder to pass your stool.

External hemorrhoids can form when the inflammation develops near the outside of your anus and makes its way outward.  Some of the inflamed tissue will make its way outside, making it very painful. Here are some of the symptoms of external hemorrhoids:

-Bleeding in the area.  The pressure can cause bleeding in the area especially since it’s on the entrance of your anal cavity.

– Infection on the tissue.  Since the flesh becomes exposed, you have to be careful about infection and make sure you clean it regularly.

-Pain and difficulty when moving your stool. It can be very painful when you have to move your stool but the swollen tissue makes it hard to do so.  Trying to push out your stool against the inflammation will cause a lot of pain.

-Itchiness and difficulty sitting.  The hemorrhoids may become very itchy and it will be difficult to sit in a position for long periods of time.  It may also cause pain if you try to sit.

How to Diagnose Hemorrhoids

In order to diagnose this condition, you will have to talk to your doctor and get a physical exam done.  The doctor will use a gloved finger and examine the area where you are experiencing pain.  If you suspect that it’s an internal hemorrhoid problem, a scope may be used to determine if that is indeed what you are suffering from.

What Are The Treatment Options?

Hemorrhoids can be treated by making changes to your diet.  You should add more fiber to your diet to make it easier for your stool pass.  Adding more fruits and vegetables or even a fiber supplement will help.  This way, you’ll have a softer stool and will pressure the affected area less.  Another way to help with your hemorrhoids is to take a warm bath and lie in it for several minutes.  This will help improve the condition and even shrink the area.

It is recommended that you clean the tissue regularly if it is an external hemorrhoid.  It can be prone to infection so you have to be careful.  It will help to massage the area with baby oil as well.  If the condition gets too serious, you may require surgery.  The doctor will cut off blood supply to the area which will result it in shrinking.

So that’s an overview of the symptoms you may experience with hemorrhoids.  While this is a very aggravating condition, you need patience to treat it.  You may have it for several weeks or even have frequent onsets of it so it’s important that you know how to deal with it.  Your doctor will give you many suggestions that can help you treat the condition and keep it under control.
